Carnaval Biarnès

With its traditional carnival characters and protected language, Pau’s Carnaval Biarnès boldly presents the culture and traditions of the langue d’Oc.   

Ten days of dancing, singing and entertainment centred on the king of the carnival, his majesty, Sent Pençard, and his entourage. Firstly, their return is celebrated with the Pantalonada and various extravagances during the processions through the city streets… Leading up to his trial and execution at the stake on Mardi Gras (Dimars Gras), which marks the end of the carnival.
And don’t forget the children’s day, Carnav ‘escòlas, a re-construction of the journey for younger children…

A popular festival, rich in traditions and legends, to add a touch of warmth to the last days of winter!
